Home was never a country. It was always you.
Therapy for women who have built a life abroad and want to feel like themselves in it. Online, in English or Portuguese.
Does this sound familiar?
Moving abroad changes you. You may come to appreciate the country you moved to, or you may continue to find life there difficult. The culture, the language and the loneliness can be more challenging than you expected, and even when you are grateful for the life you have built, you can still miss the ease of being understood and knowing where you belong.
Then you return to the country you came from and realise that something feels different there too. You have changed. Your old life has changed. And somewhere between the two, you may find that you no longer feel completely at home in either place.
Maybe what you are missing is not only a place. Maybe it is a clearer sense of who you are becoming, a feeling of home that does not depend entirely on where you live, and the freedom to make choices that genuinely feel like your own. A life that reflects who you are now, rather than one you are simply adapting to.
That is where the way through begins.
The Way Through
-

Root
We spend a lot of energy trying to manage our reactions. Understanding them, calming ourselves down, finding ways around them. And sometimes that helps. But understanding why you respond a certain way doesn't always change what happens when that response is activated again.
This is where we go back to the experiences connected to those patterns and work with them through reprocessing, rather than focusing only on managing what happens in the present.
-

Flexibility
Sometimes a situation seems to leave you with only one possible response. Someone becomes distant and you immediately think you've done something wrong. Something doesn't go according to plan and your whole body goes on alert.
After a while, it can start to feel like this is simply who you are. The goal is to have more flexibility in how you respond, instead of being pulled into the same reaction every time.

Authorship
What do you actually want from the life you have built? Moving to another country changes a lot. It can also give you the chance to question things you once accepted without thinking.
This is about making choices that feel like yours. Sometimes that means finding a way to feel more at home where you are. Sometimes it means being honest about what no longer fits. Either way, the starting point is the same: knowing yourself well enough to choose from there.
Hi, I’m Rebeca!
A wife, a mother, a Brazilian living in the Netherlands since 2019, and someone who knows what it is like to leave one life behind and build another somewhere completely new.
I had to figure out a new country, a new language, a new routine and a new version of myself. From the outside, I was doing well. Inside, I was carrying things I had learned to live with for a very long time. Understanding why I felt the way I did was one thing. Actually changing those patterns was another. That experience became part of why I do this work today.
I'm a Master TRG Therapist, registered with CITRG under number 20.358. I bring my professional training into the room, but I also bring the perspective of someone who knows what it feels like to build a life far from where you started.
I work with women who have built a new life abroad and still feel that something inside them hasn't quite caught up with the life they created.
Twenty minutes, online, free, and nothing is expected of you afterwards. We just talk.
Tell me what's been going on, as much or as little as you want. Ask me anything. I'll explain how I work and what a session looks like, and you can get a feel for what it's like to talk to me. Because that matters too.
